On Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2024, Arusha hosted the first ever Africa Women’s Cup. We are proud to announce that Habari was a key sponsor of this inaugural event in our home-town, Arusha.
This competition was organised by The Homeless World Cup Foundation, in partnership with the FIFA Foundation, and hosted teams from Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The competition is part of a two-year project, ‘Football to Protect Vulnerable Women from Exploitation’, which aims to educate and help support African countries in developing the game further across the country, but to also empower women.
Mel Young, President and Co-Founder of The Homeless World Cup Foundation, said “The project uses the power of football to identify vulnerable women, engage them in safe football activities and to guide and support them to safe and productive alternatives to exploitation.”
Habari strongly supports The Homeless World Cup Foundation’s mission and believes that the power of football can transcend borders to unite young women in a journey of empowerment, education and mentorship.
It was an extremely enjoyable weekend and we look forward to supporting the Africa Women’s Cup in 2025!
